First of all, you must speak English fluently, without a heavy accent. And, you need to have a TESL certification, for teaching English to speakers of other languages.
That’s what the foreign government is going to issue your VISA based on. Without that you can’t get a working VISA in a foreign country. You don’t need to have experience as teachers.
We’ve had students come out of high school who have gone over to China and taught for a year and loved it. We’ve also had Ontario teachers that have gone overseas, we’ve also had people with years of experience.
Degrees are required in some countries.
Global TESL offers TESL certification in just 5 days. You sign up and you register, and we take you through the 5 day process. It starts on a Wednesday night and it goes until a Sunday night. We take you through the whole process of teaching overseas. We go through the tools of teaching in the classroom; we teach you about body language, how to overcome the language barrier, where people can’t understand you. We go through contracts so you can see what to look for in a contract, what needs to be negotiated. We skype in teachers that are already overseas so you can ask direct questions, and you can get to know what it’s like to teach overseas first hand.
We also teach you how to create lesson plans. That is one of the most important things you will learn because every teacher will be asked by the employer for samples of your lesson plans. They will ask you to submit them every few weeks, so they can check what you are teaching your kids. That is a big thing that we teach you.
